KGB Monday Night

On Monday night, Barrelhouse will be in New York for a reading from our latest issue featuring Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz and Rebekah Sankey.

Cristin’s latest book is Everything is Everything from Write Bloody. It’s easy to say that these poems have a great voice, after all, Cristin has been a well-known, award-winning Slam performer for years. What’s maybe more important than voice, is that these poems communicate authentic experience. They feel lived and lived in. Not only by the speaker, but also by the reader. Poems about relationships, jobs, life—in Cristin’s hands the real stuff of our everyday existence is made beautiful and wrenching and sweet and terrifying.

Rebekah Sankey’s poems are elegant, sparkles of language. They are at times both bodily and ethereal. She takes an interior world and puts it on display. Situated in nature, spirituality, and New Jersey—which is the hotness right now—Sankey’s work offers a unique blend that is hard to find in poetry: earnest, deep thinking poems that are equally surprising and well wrought.

Be there. 7 pm, KGB Bar. You will not regret it.
