Barrelhouse returns to Scranton, PA—our favorite home away from home—on Saturday, October 2.
During the day, we’ll take part in the second annual Pages and Places Festival. The event will feature 15 internationally recognized writers (including Christopher Hitchens) who explore the terrains of history, policy, science, media, and literature. Check out the full schedule at the festival’s website.

We had a blast hosting the inaugural installment of Barrelhouse Presents…our new monthly reading series introducing authors from great literary magazines and small presses at Wonderland Ballroom. You can check out some photos from the reading on Facebook, but you really had to be there. There was a great community vibe to the whole thing. Drinks and literary comradery will do that.

Are you tired yet of hearing about AWP? You are probably tired of hearing about AWP. But you have to understand: this is like our Super Bowl. Our Wimbledon. Our Comic-Con. Actually, that last one is pretty much right, since AWP — like Comic-Con — is essentially Summer Camp for Nerds. Though Comic-Con seems to have more celebrities, and more costumes (unless you consider “hipster writer-type” to be a costume, in which case AWP has costumes galore).
